Learn to BAKE in 3 days

Baking can be fun yet, there are times when certain things go wrong for seemingly no just cause. The following baking tips will help you enjoy every second of baking.

1.    Cool cakes upside down to flatten the rounded top and if it is still too high, carefully slice with a serrated knife.

2.    The same way you use butter at room temperature is the same way you should not use cold eggs. If your eggs are really cold, place them in warm water for a while.

3.    When whipping eggs, add a pinch of salt so it can whip better and quicker.

4.    If you doubt the freshness of your eggs, don’t use them.

5.    Press flour down properly after you have scooped it then level it off with a knife before measuring it. If you don’t do this, the flour may become compacted, giving you more than you need for the recipe.

6.    Always read the entire recipe before you start so you don’t miss a vital preparatory step.

7.    Never use old yeast. It may not expire but it does have a shelf life of about 3 months.

8.    If you have to bake lots of cookies but don’t have the time, you can prepare the dough and leave it sitting in the fridge till you have the time to bake it.

9.    For better/even results, use an ice cream scoop to fill your cupcake pans.

10.    Other than the skewer/toothpick test, to test if your cake is baked, press the dome and it should be firm then spring back after a moment or two.

11.    Before icing your cake with a piping bag, test it out on the plate first to see how well it comes out to avoid mistakes on your cake.

12.    Don’t only rely on the recipe for baking time. Start checking for ‘doneness’ before the stated time.
